For Seventh-day Adventists, the Sabbath is a “weekly date with God.” It is an experience unlike the other days of the week. Every week, from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday, we set aside the distractions and the stress caused by the busyness of everyday life, to spend time with our Creator, His creation, His Word and His people.
According to Genesis 1 and 2, we see clearly God’s intentions when He created the human race. He wanted to have a special, ongoing relationship with those whom He created in His image. Hence, He gave us the Sabbath:
- A day of REST from our routine secular activities
- A day for RELATIONSHIP with God and His creation: nature and people
- A day to REFRESH ourselves from physical and mental activities
- A day of RENEWAL physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually
- A day to REMEMBER all God did for us through the plan of salvation
- A day to REVIVE our commitment to share the Good News of the Gospel
The gift of the Sabbath is an excellent prescription for our restlessness, insomnia and stress-filled life. Jesus said, “the Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also the Lord of the Sabbath.” (Mark 2:27, 28)
God used the word “Remember” in the 4th Commandment — the only time that word was used in the Ten Commandments. We invite you to “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy” (Exodus 20:8) and to join us at a local Seventh-day Adventist church this coming Saturday. Rest, renew, revive, refresh and remember that your relationship with Jesus is the most important thing in life!
